El Jem Is a Gem: Amphitheater in Tunisia

by Kids Discover

Built about 3 AD, the Amphitheater of El Jem in Tunisia was the largest Roman coliseum in northern Africa, holding about 35,000 people, a little less than Boston’s Fenway Park. Unusual because it’s on flat ground and not against a hill, it’s held up by a complex arch system.
