Frog Hears With Its Mouth

Native to the African island nation of Seychelles, Gardiner’s tree frogs are tiny — less than a half-inch long! They were thought to be deaf, because they lack middle ears, but X-rays have shown that the frogs use bones in their mouths to send sound waves to their inner ears. (Bonita Cheshier / Shutterstock)
