What Is Frostbite?

by Kids Discover

Frostbite is damage caused when skin and the tissues beneath it freeze. First, the skin (typically on faces, ears, fingers, and toes) gets very cold and red. Then it turns numb, hard, and pale. If you have symptoms, gently warm the area — don’t rub it! — and see a doctor right away.
