The Floating Rock

Pumice is a rock that floats! It forms when hot magma is blasted out of a volcano and traps gas bubbles as it quickly cools, creating a texture like that of a natural sponge. Large eruptions in the ocean can create giant “pumice rafts” that look like floating islands.
