A Slice of Bread History

Iowa-born Otto Rohwedder invented the first automatic bread-slicing machine, with a mechanism to wrap each loaf so it wouldn’t go stale. He perfected the device over many years, and sold his first one in 1928. By 1933, bakeries were selling more bread sliced than unsliced.
