A Frog with Claws

The male Central African hairy frog has the rare ability to extend bony claws from the toe pads on its hind feet. He tenses a muscle connected to the claw, and the sharp point breaks through the pad’s bottom. The claws may be for defense or to help the frog keep its grip.
