Two-Toned Moon

When Giovanni Cassini discovered Saturn’s moon Iapetus (eye-APP-eh-tuss) in 1671, he noted that one side is much darker. Scientists still don’t know why: The darkness may be caused by particles flowing from the distant dark moon Phoebe, or by icy eruptions below the surface.
