Mary Wollstonecraft’s 1787 Thoughts on the Education of Daughters was radical in its day, calling for girls to be raised as thinkers, and not just prepared to be wives and mothers. Her own daughter Mary Shelley grew up to pen the classic novel Frankenstein.
