Where Clouds Run Dry

A rain shadow is a dry area on a mountain’s leeward side (facing away from wind). Clouds drop rain or snow on the windward side before reaching the top. The taller the slope, the less rainfall on the other side: For example, the Gobi Desert is in the Himalayas’ rain shadow.
