Swedish scientist/entrepreneur Alfred Nobel left most of his fortune to set up the Nobel Prizes in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and peace. A prolific inventor, his best known creation was dynamite. The first Nobels were given in 1901, five years after he died.
