Strange Sailing Stones

“Sailing stones” move on their own at the Racetrack, a playa or dry lakebed in California’s Death Valley. Trails mark their movement, but how they move is a mystery. One theory: Rain creates a thin layer of slippery mud, and strong winds blow the rocks across the playa.
