Maria Mitchell: She Saw Stars

Maria Mitchell was America’s first woman astronomer. In 1847, she discovered a new comet, and in 1865 became the first astronomy professor at Vassar College, founded in 1861 just for women. She was a strong advocate for woman’s rights and a major 19th-century scientist.
