Ancient Earth Was Stinky

After studying fossils of microbes feeding on other microbes, researchers concluded that ancient Earth smelled like hydrogen sulfide — aka rotten eggs. The bacteria frozen in the act of being consumed were Gunflintia, an early source of oxygen for our planet’s atmosphere.
