Moondust is mostly silicon dioxide glass plus iron, calcium, and magnesium. Astronauts say the sticky stuff is soft but gritty, and it smells (and tastes!) like gunpowder. No one is sure why, since the ingredients that make up gunpowder aren’t even found on the moon.
