International Workers’ Day

Today is International Workers’ Day, when many countries celebrate the labor movement. Though the U.S. observes Labor Day in September, IWD has roots in America’s 1886 Haymarket Affair, when a peaceful Chicago rally supporting the eight-hour workday was disrupted by a bombing.
