Why Your Stomach Growls

by Kids Discover

Borborygmi (BOR-boh-RIG-mee) is the technical term for stomach rumblings. Stomach and intestinal muscles contract during digestion, making that familiar gurgling. Borborygmi can sound louder when your stomach is emptier, because there’s less stuff to muffle the noise.
