Natural dams made of travertine, a type of limestone, shape the cascading waters of Croatia’s Plitvice (PLEET-veets-uh) Lakes National Park. The area features 16 interconnected lakes, plus caves, waterfalls, and forests that shelter wolves, brown bears, and dozens of bird species.
