Sheep-Eating Plant

Native to Chile, the Puya chilensis is nicknamed the “sheep-eating plant” because its sharp spines can snag sheep and other animals, holding them so tightly that they starve to death. Flowers grow from tall spikes in the middle of the plant — but may take a decade or more to bloom.
