A Mosquito Menace

The tiger mosquito is named for its black and white stripes. Native to Southeast Asia, it arrived in the U.S. in the 1980s and has now spread to about half the states. It hasn’t caused an epidemic here yet, but this striped pest can carry such diseases as dengue fever and West Nile virus. (Photo: Marco Uliana)
