What Hubble Can’t See

In orbit around Earth, the Hubble Space Telescope has a clearer view of the universe than land-based telescopes do. But it can’t observe the sun, because the star’s intense heat and light would seriously damage HST instruments. Because Mercury is so close to the sun, it’s off-limits too. (Image: NASA)
