Adult male dobsonflies have long, scary-looking mandibles or jaws, but only females actually bite (and they lack those jaws). Dobsonfly larvae live up to three years underwater, eating other insect larvae. Also called Hellgrammites, they’re popular as bait for catching bass and other fish.
