The Puzzling Platypus

The platypus, found in eastern Australia, is a very unusual mammal. It has a leathery snout that looks like a duck’s bill, and a beaver-like tail. Platypus males are venomous, which is rare in mammals, and females are monotremes: They lay eggs instead of having live births.
