Mysterious Machu Picchu

The sprawling Incan city of Machu Picchu was discovered on a Peruvian mountaintop in 1911. But, because the Incas kept no written records, archaeologists still don’t know exactly why it was built or why it was abandoned. These days, it’s a super-popular tourist destination.
