Congress officially set Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November in 1941. It’s inspired by the Pilgrims’ 1621 harvest festival in Plymouth, Massachusetts — but Florida, Texas, Maine, and Virginia also all claim to be the site of the first American Thanksgiving.
