The Royal Game of Ur

Similar to backgammon, the “Game of Twenty Squares” was a popular board game more than 4,000 years ago. In the 1920s, British archaeologists found several boards and gamepiece sets in the Royal Cemetery at Ur (now in Iraq). Ancient texts gave clues on how it was played.
