Ancient Marshmallows

Marshmallow is an ancient treat. The Egyptians mixed the gooey sap of the mallow plant with honey and nuts, but it wasn’t until the 1800s that French candymakers created the confection we know today. Modern versions usually contain gelatin instead of mallow root extract.
