An Asteroid’s Twin Moons

Discovered in 1866, Sylvia is one of the largest asteroids in the main belt (those orbiting between Mars and Jupiter). More than 100 years later, it was found to have two moons — making it the first known triple-asteroid system. Romulus was spotted in 2001, and Remus in 2004.
