Birth of the Kaleidoscope

by Kids Discover

A kaleidoscope creates patterns by bouncing light off angled glass lenses or mirrors and onto colorful bits of glass or other small objects. Scottish scientist Sir David Brewster invented the kaleidoscope in 1816, and entrepreneur Charles Bush made it popular in America in the 1870s.
