A Colorful Carving

In July 2013, archaeologists exploring the buried Maya city of Holmul found a giant carving, so well-preserved that it had traces of the bright paint that once covered it. Holmul, now in Guatemala, was among the last cities abandoned when the Maya civilization ended around 900 A.D.
