Digging for Diamonds

At Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, visitors can hunt for gemstones — and keep any they find! In 1906, the site’s owner, John Huddleston, first discovered diamonds in the ancient volcanic crater, which also yields semi-precious stones such as amethysts and garnets.
