Don’t Give Up the Ship

Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry joined the Navy at age 13, and at 28 he won the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. After British cannons smashed his flagship, the USS Lawrence, Perry had himself rowed under heavy fire to a sister ship, the Niagara, where he resumed the fight.
