Why FDR Is on the Dime

The poliovirus mostly struck children, but President Franklin D. Roosevelt caught it as an adult in 1921. During his second term, he helped create the polio-research foundation that became the March of Dimes. In 1946, a year after his death, the U.S. Mint put his face on the dime.
