Fingernail Moons

The small curved area at the base of your fingernails and toenails is called the lunula, which means “little moon” in Latin. It’s the only part of the nail matrix, or root, that you can see. It’s clearest on your thumbs, but not everybody’s are visible, and that’s normal.
