The Five-Year-Old Emperor: Fulin

In 1643, at age five, Fulin became emperor of China. Known as the Shunzhi Emperor, he began ruling at age 12. He was a Buddhist, but one close adviser was Jesuit priest/astronomer Johann Adam Schall von Bell, whom Fulin allowed to build a Roman Catholic church in Beijing.
