The Great Hurricane of 1780

by Kids Discover

The Great Hurricane of 1780 is considered one of the deadliest ever. When it ripped through the eastern Caribbean that October, some islands were flattened, and more than 25,000 died. The area suffered two other hurricanes that month, seriously damaging its economy and culture. The island of St. Eustatius (shown here) was hit particularly hard, with some ruins still remaining.
