The first dog to win a rank in the U.S. military was Sergeant Stubby, a brindle bulldog mutt and World War I hero. Smuggled overseas by his soldier owner, Stubby saved wounded men and even caught a German spy! Later, he met presidents and was a Georgetown University mascot.
