How a Snake Hisses

A snake hisses by pushing air over a little piece of cartilage inside its glottis, an opening behind its tongue leading to the windpipe. The cartilage vibrates, and the hissing starts. Snakes have two lungs, but usually the right one is bigger and does most of the work.
