Imperial Lions of Ethiopia

Haile Selassie, the last emperor of Ethiopia, kept rare lions as pets. These unusual animals had dark manes flowing down their chests and bellies, and DNA tests on their descendants show they are a distinct species. A zoo-based breeding program aims to keep the line alive.
