Inventing a Cookie

In 1930, Ruth Wakefield put pieces of a Nestle chocolate bar into cookie dough at her Massachusetts inn — and the chocolate-chip cookie was born! She called them Toll House Cookies because her inn was a toll house, a place for travelers to rest and pay road tolls.
