Liberia’s Nobel Leader

A recipient of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is Africa’s first female head of state. Her career began during a time of bloody conflict, and she was later jailed for speaking out. After working for reforms, she was elected in 2005.
