Maelstrom

A maelstrom is a powerful whirlpool. Thanks to an Edgar Allan Poe story, the world’s most famous is the Moskstraumen, a tidal current in the Norwegian Sea. But the strongest is Saltstraumen in Arctic Norway (shown here), where the rushing water can reach almost 25 miles per hour.
