Makemake: Another Dwarf Planet

by Kids Discover

First spotted in 2005, dwarf planet Makemake (mah-kee-mah-kee) was named after a god of the Rapa Nui, the native people of Easter Island. The third largest dwarf, after Eris and Pluto, Makemake is reddish-brown in color and takes 310 Earth years to orbit once around the sun. (Illustration: NASA)
