Making Aluminum Cheaper

It’s common now, but aluminum used to be rare and expensive, even after chemists figured out how to produce it commercially in the mid-1800s. By 1888, the metal was much cheaper, thanks to new ways of extracting it from aluminum oxide and bauxite ore — methods still used today.
