Miranda: A Patchwork Moon

On Uranus’s moon Miranda, sharp borders divide heavily cratered areas from more lightly dented ridges and valleys. One theory holds that the moon burst apart in a collision and then reformed; another says meteorite strikes melted part of the surface, which later refroze.
