Naked Sea Slugs

A nudibranch is a sea slug with gills exposed on its back. (The name means “naked gill.”) Thousands of species are found everywhere, from the shallows to deep-sea vents. Though they lack shells, these colorful critters defend themselves by releasing toxins or stingers.
