Built by the prehistoric Hopewell people in what is now Warren County, Ohio, Fort Ancient is a plateau ringed by 3.5 miles of earthen walls that stand up to 23 feet high. Archaeologists believe the area, which has yielded a trove of artifacts, was really a vast ceremonial space.
