Probing Protoplanets

NASA’s Dawn spacecraft is zeroing in on Vesta and Ceres, two of the largest objects in the Main Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter. Scientists say these aren’t true asteroids, but are actually protoplanets — baby planets that never fully developed.
