Rise of the Sun Stone

The Aztec Calendar Stone, or Sun Stone, was carved from solidified lava in the 15th century. This gigantic, 24-ton artifact somehow got lost for 300 years — it was found buried under Mexico City in 1790. It is now on display at Mexico’s National Museum of Anthropology.
