Sinkhole’s Record Cold

by Kids Discover

A cold-air pool is a depression, such as a valley or sinkhole, that traps cold air. One famous example is Utah’s Peter Sinks, a sinkhole where dense, frigid air settles at night. Temperatures there drop well below freezing, and in 1985 they hit a record low of -69.3 degrees Fahrenheit! (Image: geology.utah.gov)
