When Solenodons Strike

The shrew-like Hispaniolan solenodon lives only on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Among the few venomous mammals, it uses toxic saliva to subdue such prey as millipedes, worms, and beetles. This nocturnal burrower has sharp claws for digging and an unusual flexible snout.
